Ceiling fans are to be used for spot cooling in the summer. If you are not in the room the fan does absolutely no good to cool you down. They will actually heat up the room because the motor runs at around 120 degrees Fahrenheit. It is okay to use the fans for comfort issues anytime of the year. However, remember to turn the fan off when you are not in the room. Running a ceiling fan for 24/7 for one year on average cost over $350 per fan.
